Representing Employers and Businesses in New York
Do you operate a business with employees? New York law requires that employers have workers' compensation coverage if there are any employees. If you fail to comply, you may be assessed a penalty by the Workers' Compensation Board.
The Koenigsberg Law Office has built its practice on the workers' comp system, advocating for injured employees and defending employers against fines and penalties. From our experience, we understand both sides of these cases. Contact our office in New York City to speak with an attorney.
Negotiating Against Penalties for Uninsured Employers
We have made it our business to advocate for your business. Our goal is to help you understand how to defend yourself against these penalties, negotiate with the bureaucracy, and work towards obtaining the best possible result under the circumstances.
The New York State Workers' Compensation Board was created with police powers to enforce workers' comp laws. It has a staff of agents to monitor compliance and assess penalties against employers that fail to maintain insurance coverage for employees.
If you are in violation, the Workers' Compensation Board can:
- Assess a $2,000 penalty for every 10 days that your business does not have workers' comp coverage
- Agents can conduct an investigation and close your business for lack of compliance
- Pursue criminal prosecution against you
If your business has been assessed a penalty by the Workers' Compensation Board, contact us to speak with a lawyer. Our office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend appointments are available. We have a Spanish-speaking staff and are centrally located in lower Manhattan.
